News HeadlinesDr. Holmes Completes Advanced Injectables Trainings August 14, 2009 — Dr. Leighanne Holmes, medical director and certified laser physician at Soulstis Med Spa recently completed advanced trainings in injectable therapy techniques through the offices of nationally-known Dr. Lori Haddad and Connie Brennan.
Dr. Lori is a board certified dermasurgeon; the medical director for Birmingham Dermatology LLC and The Skin Spa LLC, both located in Michigan; and a professor for the Dermatology Residency Program at Oakwood Hospital in Michigan. Through Dr. Lori, Dr. Holmes was able to learn the most advanced techniques in layering injectable therapies with laser skin services. The use of both laser and injectables to smooth and define areas around the eyes, mouth and cheeks renders the most effective results and requires fewer treatments.
Dr. Holmes complemented her training with Dr. Lori by mentoring with Connie Brennan, a noted injector for Botox®, Radiesse®, Juvederm® and Perlane®. Brennan’s national reputation for being a leading educator in injectable therapies has created a new quality standard for all medical spas who follow her example.
Botox® is a natural, purified protein that is administered into the muscles that cause fine lines to form. It’s used to treat persistent lines between the brow and around the eyes and forehead. Juvederm® and Radiesse® are fillers used for augmentation of the cheeks, lips, nose and back of hands.

Dr. Holmes, Soulstis Med Spa Physician, Attends National Conferences August 13, 2009 — Medical director and certified laser physician of Soulstis Med Spa, Dr. Leighanne Holmes recently attended two national conferences on aesthetic medicine. The first conference, the Cosmetic Dermatology Seminar in Santa Monica, California, was held May 28 – May 30. The second, the SCITON Summit-Midwest ’09 Regional User’s Meeting in Chicago, was held on July 11 and 12.
Both conferences focused heavily on maximizing the use of the SCITON Profile® laser system, which is known for increased effectiveness with fewer treatments and decreased pain and recovery time associated with treatments. Soulstis Med Spa is the only user of the SCITON Profile® system in the greater lakes area. The leading laser of its kind, the SCITON Profile® is renowned by the most recognized laser physicians and professionals in the nation, including Dr. Lori Haddad, a board certified dermasurgeon who has been noted by US Magazine for her advanced use of the SCITON Profile® system; Dr. Mark Salzman, a board certified aesthetic plastic surgeon who has been listed in Louisville Magazine’s “Best of Louisville” for Cosmetic Surgeons and Dr. Jason Pozner, one of the most influential voices in the world of skin resurfacing and aesthetic medicine.
The Cosmetic Dermatology Seminar, in Santa Monica discussed the fine details of aging, acne, skin tightening, pigment issues, and face and body augmentation. Panelists at the national conference included Dr. Christopher Zachary, a regularly featured physician in the “Best Doctors of America” publication. Dr. Zachary was the Director of Cutaneous Surgery and Laser Center at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis where Dr. Holmes attended medical school. In her reunion with Dr. Zachary, one of the most influential dermaplastic surgeons in the country, Dr. Holmes was able to exchange ideas and discuss the fine details that maximize results for patients.
At the SCITON Summit-Midwest ’09 Regional User’s Meeting in Chicago, a number of noted physicians, including Dr. Lori Haddad, Dr. Salzman and Dr. Pozner spoke on the SCITON systems. Doug Carrow, one of the creators of the SCITON Profile® laser system also attended and spoke at the conference. During her time at the conference, Dr. Holmes completed a one-on-one training with Dr. James Hobart, the founder and CEO of the SCITON systems.
Dr. Holmes leads a team of two medical aestheticians at Soulstis Med Spa, Jane Kimball and Mary McCoulough. Her ongoing relationships with nationally-known professionals in the aesthetic medicine world will continue to provide the highest level of service for her patients. Sciton’s SkinTyte Achieves Effective and Comfortable Skin Tightening A vast majority of patients can expect both comfortable treatment and visible skin tightening results with the SkinTyte from Sciton, Inc. (Palo Alto,Calif.), which combines infrared energy “About 80% of my patients notice a visible firming which they are pleased with,” reported Patrick Bitter, Jr., M.D., a dermatologist in private practice in Los Gatos and Beverly Hills, Calif., who typically schedules between one and five sessions, spaced three to five weeks apart. “Treatments are also quite comfortable. Of all the non-invasive, nonsurgical tightening technologies I’ve experienced, SkinTyte far and away provides the most comfortable treatment.” The cooling system cools the skin’s surface to precise temperatures ranging from 0º C to 30º C. SkinTyte’s pulse of infrared light can also be delivered for up to 15 seconds “to acheive a more gradual warming, rather than a rapid heating of the tissue,” Dr. Bitter explained. “A gradual warming is perceived by the patient as being more tolerable.” As for the length of a treatment session, “you can do a lower face and submental neck in about 20 minutes, compared to 45 minutes with some other skin tightening technologies.” Popular offface areas that Dr. Bitter treats are the abdomen and posterior arms. In addition, SkinTyte sessions “are quite economical for the patient” because there are no consumables, Dr. Bitter noted. “For a particular patient, I may do one or two extra treatments, for which there are no consumable costs to me at all.” SkinTyte eliminates the need to purchase a disposable treatment tip with a set number of pulses. “I’m most impressed with the SkinTyte’s efficacy in treating the neck and lower face,” said Jody Levine, M.D., a dermatologist in private practice in New York City, N.Y., who schedules an average of four sessions at four to six week intervals. “Patients can expect an immediate firmness, then several months later a longer lasting firmness follows.” The neck is the most popular area Dr. Levine treats with SkinTyte, followed by the thighs. Unlike other skin tightening technologies that use different disposable handpieces for various parts of the body – and charge the physician accordingly – SkinTyte has a single handpiece and three Finesse adapters to easily change the spot size. “You don’t need to pay for each handpiece separately,” Dr. Levine stated. Moreover, the same Sciton handpiece allows for skin rejuvenation treatment with Broadband Light (BBL). “It is very easy to transfer from a BBL treatment to a SkinTyte treatment within the same session,” Dr. Levine said. Dr. Levine also pointed out that the sapphire contact cooling allows “for more uniform cooling than other systems using cryogen spray.” SkinTyte treatment is safe for all skin types, too. “The biggest risk to any of these heating devices is burning of the skin,” she said. “However, as long as you are cognizant of the power you are using and the patient’s tolerance for pain, SkinTyte will provide a safe treatment. I have seen no adverse events. There is also zero downtime.” Overall, Dr. Levine finds SkinTyte easy-to-use and has attained remarkable results among the skin tightening systems. “Patients are most happy about the firmness in the treated area without having to undergo surgery,” she said.
